After a lot of searching, we've found a reliable supplier for the 2/4 Brake Duty Solenoid as used in the Rover 75 / MG ZT Automatic models (all engines - 1.8, 2.0 and 2.5, petrol and diesel).
2/4 Brake Duty Solenoid failure is characterised by harsh gearchanges. In the past this fault would require an exchange of the transmission unit, however you can now change this item in around 1 hour and have full function restored.

Test the resistance between pins as indicated, and you should find the cause of your issue.
These are brand new parts, and warranted for 3 years.
